Executive Leadership Team

Mr. Johnson serves as our president and chief executive officer. Mr. Johnson has served as a member of our Board of Directors since August 2011. Prior to joining Dendreon, Mr. Johnson was the chief executive officer of Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he has also served as a member of its Board of Directors since January 2011. Before joining Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Mr. Johnson served as president of Eli Lilly & Company's Oncology Unit, following the company's 2008 acquisition of Imclone Systems, Inc., where he served as chief executive officer. Prior to joining Imclone, he served as the Company Group Chairman of Biopharmaceuticals within Johnson & Johnson, where he was responsible for the Johnson & Johnson Biotechnology, Immunology and Oncology commercial businesses. Prior to assuming that role, Mr. Johnson held several executive positions at Johnson & Johnson, Parkstone Medical Information Systems, Inc., Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceutical Corp., as well as positions at Pfizer, Inc. Mr. Johnson received his bachelor's degree from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Savient Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Cempra Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Tranzyme Pharma, Inc.

Dr. Frohlich serves as our senior vice president for clinical affairs and chief medical officer. Dr. Frohlich previously served as our vice president of clinical affairs and prior to that served as our senior medical director. Prior to joining Dendreon, Dr. Frohlich was vice president and medical director at Xcyte Therapies, a biotechnology company. Prior to that was an assistant professor in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco, where he specialized in urologic oncology and was active in laboratory, translational and clinical research. Dr. Frohlich did his post doctoral training in oncology at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his B.S. from Yale University in electrical engineering and economics and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School.

Mr. Osborn serves as our executive vice president and general counsel. Mr. Osborn previously held the same position with US Oncology, Inc. and Cephalon, Inc. Earlier in his career, Mr. Osborn served with the U.S. Department of State during the George H. W. Bush administration, clerked for Judge Albert V. Bryan of the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and practiced corporate law with Hale and Dorr (now Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr). He also has been a member of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy, the Board of Governors of the East-West Center in Honolulu, the Board of Directors of Incept BioSystems, Inc., and a visiting fellow at Oxford and Princeton Universities. Mr. Osborn is a graduate of the University of Iowa, and earned a law degree from the University of Virginia and a master's in international public policy from Johns Hopkins.

Mr. Ranieri serves as our senior vice president of human resources. Mr. Ranieri joined Dendreon from Sepracor, Inc., where he served as the executive vice president of human resources and administration. Mr. Ranieri previously served as the senior vice president of human resources and chief administrative officer at Neurocrine Biosciences, where he was responsible for managing and directing the human resources, corporate communications, operations and purchasing functions of the company. Mr. Ranieri also has held positions as Genencor International and SmithKline Beecham. Mr. Ranieri received a M.S. from Rider College and a B.A. from Villanova University.

Mr. Schiffman serves as our senior vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer. Mr. Schiffman came to Dendreon from Affymetrix Inc., where he served as the CFO and executive vice president. Prior to Affymetrix, Mr. Schiffman was the vice president and controller for Applied Biosystems where he managed a 200-person global finance team spanning more than 20 countries. Prior to entering the biotechnology field, he served for over 10 years in various domestic and international divisions of Hewlett Packard, ultimately serving as a divisional manufacturing manager and controller. Prior to Hewlett Packard, he also held positions at IBM. Mr. Schiffman holds an M.B.A. from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University and a B.S. degree in accounting from DePaul University.
